Parking in Downtown New Haven

New Haven is a very walkable city. Many visitors park once and walk throughout the Downtown. For short-and long-term visits, the New Haven Parking Authority system has over 9,000 parking spaces at the Air Rights, Crown Street, Chapel Square, Temple Street, Temple/George, Granite Square and at 19 surface lots. All locations are conveniently located. Rates vary from facility to facility, as do the hours of operation. Further information can be obtained by contacting the New Haven Parking Authority at 203-946-8936. Several private companies provide off-street public parking as well.

There are over 2,900 on-street parking meters, with time limits ranging from 15-minute to 12-hour parking depending on the location. On-street parking costs $1.25/hour. Meters in central downtown accept coins, MasterCard/VISA or Discover and meters outside the central downtown area accept coins and New Haven City Cards. Visitors may purchase a City Card, which can be used at nearly 2000 parking meters and at many local stores and merchants for purchases. City cards are available online newhavencard.net or in person at INFO New Haven, 1000 Chapel Street, New Haven.

Parking is more limited at Union Station and visitors are encouraged to use the Downtown shuttle or other means to access the station.

Effective July 2013, the City launched Parkmobile pay by cell option for parking meetings.  Click here to learn more.
