Leading the pack of things to do in the next few weeks is the annual New Haven Road Race, celebrating its 30th year. Make plans to visit Labor Day weekend and experience the Stratton Faxon New Haven Road Race. The USA 20K Championship race is on Monday, September 3 starting at 8:40am. Runners have the option of a 5K race and a noncompetitive children's 1/2 mile Fun Run. Over 5,000 racers will be on the starting lines with friends and family gathered along the route and on the historic New Haven Green. There will be fun events, children’s activities, inflatable rides, and lots of music and food — all to commemorate this special year. Late summer is also the time of year when the major theaters in our region announce their upcoming fall schedules. To date we have heard from the following performing arts venues:
Shubert Theater,
Long Wharf Theatre,
Chevrolet Theater,
Yale Repertory Theatre, and
New Haven Symphony Orchestra.

Check out their Web sites—you are bound to find a performance that suits your taste and travel dates. The Museums in the region are equally busy. On Thursday, September 6, from 5:30 to 8:00 pm, the
Yale University Art Gallery, and the
Yale Center for British Art are hosting an Open House for the public, featuring great art, free tours, music, and light refreshments. The evening coincides with New Haven's "First Thursday" series, with shops open late. Everyone is invited!
Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History, and the
Knights of Columbus Museum have big plans for the fall as well. Be sure to visit these sites and plan a weekend of cultural enrichment.
Carve out a weekend during October 9-28 to experience the 10th anniversary of New Haven’s City Wide Open Studios—a 20-day celebration of contemporary art in all its myriad forms. Hundreds of local artists display their work, giving thousands of visitors the opportunity to meet artists, visit studio sites, and see art being made. City-Wide Open Studios is a program of Artspace, a Connecticut non-profit organization whose mission is to catalyze artistic efforts, to connect artists, audiences and resources, and to redefine "art spaces."
